[quote="homebirdYes, you really have to look into these birds very carefully & it really helps to talk to people like yourself who have had personal experience ~ I know of one woman who is into IRNs in a big way & has a Plumhead - same story - he seems so unhappy.

It is an easy mistake for a beginner to make. When I first got into birds, it was finches. I got all sorts of super expensive exotic finches that were definitely too flighty for the home environment and they needed an aviary which I didn't have. Lost lots of money selling them to a store.
I do think that people who have the "aviary" species of parakeets who do well as house pets are the exception to the rule. There is a reason they say that certain species have more of an aviary temperament rather than a pet temperament. My mom's Bourke's and Princess of Wales are happy, she lets them out for hours per day, etc. but they will not tolerate being touched.
