Horrible couple of months!  Reply with quote

Hi folks, not been on for a while. Had a horrible couple of months. Work tough trying to get 60 kids through art exams before Easter. During the holidays I decided i should take my dog to the vet to have her teeth checked. She needed some taking out I had no choice otherwise she would have had a bad infection she died three hours after coming round from the anasthetic. The worse thing was that I was on my way to pick her up when I got the call from the vet. She had had a heart attack. I was devastated and miss her terribly. Then the next week took Pico (My sennie) to the breeder as I was getting no where with my moody monster, he is now in a huge aviary and awaiting his love of his life, I miss him but felt sure this was the best thing for my somewhat anti social birdie. The very next day Peanut (my Hahns) was sick first thing on the sunday morning five times when I got her out and then very groggy with a yellow poop. I was so worried only a week after my beloved Jasmine died! I managed to find an emergency vet and took her in straight away she was in such a bad way. She was in for a week and even when I went to pick her up on the Friday she still looked pretty bad. He tested for everything he could think of, he took bloods on the Friday while I was there as I could hold her for him. She was so thin and fragile and her eyes were dull, he kept her another few nights, I thought I was going to lose my baby. She seemed to recover quickly when I got her home. Thankfully she seems fine now and has put on weight again. Nothing showed up on the tests, an expensive non diagnosis! Cost me £430.00 !! Jasmine had cost that a week before too! I was so scared I was going to lose her and possibly Ziggy (my grey) if it was a virus. It is a complete mystery as to why she was ill. She showed no signs the night before and nothing had happened to cause anything in her environment or diet that I could think of. I still miss my little Jaz but thank goodness my two fids are ok. Pico is fine too, after having a bit of isolation in his new home! I lost a koi too. I kind of got the feeling someone was trying to tell me something, perhaps I should cancel upgrading my marine tank!

I am so sorry to hear all that has been happening to you regarding your poor animals! I know how hard it is when a pet passes, but time will heal, and you will always have such good memories forever. I understand how the circumstances made it extra difficult Comfort I am glad that your birds are okay now too. I don't know what the conversion to US dollars are, but I know vet care everywhere can be very expensive. I'm sorry that the koi died also! Crying or Very sad I can understand your concern about upgrading your marine tank at this time too! I used to have marine tanks years ago. They are fun, but can be costly. I'm wishing good luck upon you Smile

This kind of thing often happens in clusters.

I must say i was continually horrified as I read your post. I don't know how I'd cope with all of that! If it isn't a sign it sure makes you think.

A number of years ago our place was like a green house. every window & surface had plants - so lovely. I had my routine - very rewarding & peaceful. Then we had some bad years financially & some health issues. Well in the end i lost over 1/2 my plants. Over or under watering - or they just weren't getting the attention they needed. I'm pretty happy with what i have right now & am resiting going there again.
... A lot of the plants i lost wouldn't have fitted in with birds anyways so i guess it was meant to be.

Death - it comes & there's little we can do about it but pick up the pieces of our lives. I think you've done your best - so glad your Grey's OK & hope nothing else happens. Too bad you couldn't find out what was hurting your Hahns - maybe a plant?

Thanks all for your kind words. Really baffled by Peanuts illness. She was fine up until that morning, no signs at all. She hadn't been near anything except me as we were just up and getting their food, she was just sitting on my shoulder, amazing how quickly she went down hill too. She was so skinny when I got her back, that was seven days later and I still thought I might lose her as she was so poorly. I have racked my brains tryin to think what it could be, no plants or toxins in the house, I am so careful, I have no sprays or all the usual hazards. I am doing a list for the Parrot centre now after we had a discussion as to how many people fail to realise the risks to their fids around the home, I did a lot of research before I had my babies and I think she should give a list to prospective parronts. I am still getting my new marine tank though, life goes on and my two little fish need it! No more birds though and no new dog yet, Jasmine was so special to me I can't just replace her. Spoke to the breeder who took Pico today and Pico is fine she is intending to find a partner for him so I am delighted, he has a big aviary too. I will visit him in the holidays if I can bear it. I do miss him but I do believe it is best for him too, specially if he gets a girlie Very Happy
