i've had birds since I was 14... a fair while ago... I had budgies and cockatiels. of which two budgies flew away because I thought their clipped wings were ok to take them outside but I was wrong when a strong winds took them off of my fingers and away from my life forever, and two cockatiels flew away because their 'outdoor cage' decide to 'loose it's bottom' while hanging on the tree for a bit of sunlight... Sad

Apollo is my first big bird. hubby had a galah to start off with, but someone stole him four years ago when he was only eight months old. Sad though he wasn't my bird, I do miss Zack.

Oh Bih!! So sorry to hear how you and your hubby lost your birds! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

My mom has such a nice backyard that I was so tempted to take the birds outside... even with clipped wings and no wind, I am still so paranoid. I've heard too many stories about freak accidents. Of course none of my guys will let a harness near them, so oh well... they may never see the great outdoors unless I eventually get them a travel cage.

yeah I know.. that's why I NEVER take any of my birds outdoor anymore, clipped or not clipped without either being in a carrier or on harness... or being held onto very 'tightly'...

I still actually have two cockatiels.. but they both resides at my parents house in their little aviary with my parent's galah... and Devon is 9 years old and Weero is 8 years old. I bought weero as a female companion for Devon, but he turned out to be a boy... LOL.. oh well what can you do... They are now really my parents' birds...My parents also have two tamed rainbow lorikeets... Ruyi and JiXiang... check out my diarypages for pics of them if you like. Smile Ruyi is about 2yrs old, and JiXiang is about 18 months old.

I have seen your pics last week of your parents birds Very Happy That's great that they love birds too... your parents and husband. My mom has a Bourke's keet, but she is afraid of touching or getting to close to my birds. She used to have complete bird phobia (aviphobia?) but she is cured to some degree after she got the tiny keet. Smile
I never grew up with birds, so I only got familiar with them as an adult. I went to a pet shop one day for some fish food, and it was all over from there Laughing
