New Foster Bird  Reply with quote

We had a board meeting and a bird social today for our Parrot Group Network. They had a lot of birds there that needed fostering. There were the two greys John had mentioned before in this forum. The ones who plucked . Also a goffin cockatoo from the same house the greys came from.....also plucking a little. Two senegals were there. John and I took home a indian ringneck named PeeWee that is quite untame. It is temporary until spring when he will go in an aviary. There were also 4 cockatiels there that needed homes until spring. We took one home that needed care. It has either kidney or liver problems and is very small only about 65 grams. It has been through quaranteen already and we will have to give it medicine in the water. This bird will probably stay with us for the rest of her life which we feel may not be long. Crying or Very sad Anyways we gave her a name........Anya...

P.S. All the birds went home with someone either to foster or adopt. The one exception was a cockatiel that needed to go back to the vet and one CAG that was not quite ready to go yet.

we have a lot Lynzi.... I don't count them....... Smile Your words were kind.....thanks. We just hope that our parrot network grows before their are too many birds and not enough members to help them. We take on a lot because I stay at home so I can care for them all. If I was working too .......how hard would that be? I don't even want to think about it.

Awww, I'm glad that almost all of the birds were taken to homes. Is there any chance the foster homes will turn into permanant homes, or is there a rule forbidding that? I guess I'm just not sure how it works.
Obviously there are some exceptions, as with Anya. That one sounds like a very sad, unfortunate situation, & I'm sorry. I know she'll find the best care in your home. Is there any chance that she will recover from her problems?

if I lived closer I'd for sure be involved and help out with the foster birdies!!!
I would do that around here too...but there isn't a organization close to us at all.....
my parents don't want to drive me over 2 hours one way....
Sad
but when I get my license....
I'm going every time there's a meeting... Laughing

Cathy,

Anya is 30 years old according to the Vet, she feels that old when you look into her eyes. We are going to give her as happy a home as we can for as long as we can. She has come here to wait.... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Not to recover, her liver and kiddney are not working right, but she is a good friendly bird..

John
