Last nite my husband and I went and pick up 2 white doves.
The female leg had been broken and did not heal right.
I am not sure if they will be adoptable.
No Matter they can stay here. I do not know much about Doves
But I will learn..
They had no names We name them
Augie & Augusta..because we got them in Augs ... clever hay..
LOL
I have posted them on my Home page..
I only have two empty cages left..It is time to go to some garage sale

I live with doves, and am very knowledgeable about them, so feel free to ask any questions you may have.
A few things to know, do not clip their wings, doves can't climb the way hook bills can, so the only way for them to get around and get exercise is to fly. They need minimum 2-3 hours of out of cage flying time. Cage should be wide, rather than tall. They prefer flat surfaces to roost on, as opposed to perches and tree branches.
If you have a mated pair, be prepared for them to lay lots and lots of eggs. Have dud eggs on hand, and as soon as the eggs are laid, replace them with the dud eggs. They will sit on the eggs for 15-16 days, and once they realize they're not hatching, they will start breeding again. If you remove their eggs without replacing them with fake eggs, they will start breeding right away, and this can be very stressful and nutrient depleting for the hen. Supplement their water with liquid calcium (without vitamin D), especially while they're sitting on eggs.
Good luck, if I lived closer, I would have adopted them from you. |

Oh thank you so much for telling me all that. I did know about the flat surface .
But not the other stuff. Where can I find a dud egg? . Do they have to have some kind of nesring box? I do not want babies? Where do you live ?I love road tips.
If I do find some one to adopt them .
The dove with the bad leg. Would she be destroyed by the new owner ?
Would she be accepted by he rest of the flock? or would they hurt her?
I once had pegions and they kept hurting the weaker ones.
Is his the way Doves are? |
