| Parrot/ parakeet species.. |
|
|
What did you make decide to adopt a certain parrot/ parakeet species?
Was it a certain behavior? Or was it the looks of your parrot/ parakeet species? Or perhaps a certain talent that was typical for this species?
Or perhaps was it the size or noise level that made you choose this particular species?
Just curious!

I quess it was a couple of things that made me decide on a cockatoo. First of all, I've always loved their personalities. When I was in my 20's I cared for a few at the vet clinic I helped at. My husband and I also happened to go to a lecture about parrots and saw a 75 year old macaw who was just amazing and still beautiful and thought it was a good time in our life to have a larger bird, but macaws have always made me a little uneasy, so we, my husband and I, researched cockatoos and that is how we got Sammie. Now I am very partial to cockatoos and plan on adopting more. I think, after 20 years of having and caring for birds, I pretty much know everything they can throw at me and I am very comfortable with that and I think cockatoos will always be my favorite and probably the only kind I will adopt. Toos are pretty challenging, to my opinion.. They may seem easy going birds, but they are pretty tough.
According to my avian vet, toos are the most difficult parrots. With let's say Greys, you immediately notice when you've done something wrong as they 'punish' you for that.
But with toos, you'll only notice mistakes after some years. Strange..
It's wonderful that your plan is to adopt more toos in need of a home.. I think you're a good person for them.. (When I hear the stories about your toos) |

I'm always up for a challenge, gee I have two teenage boys.LOL At the rescue I go to the majority of unwanted or given up birds are cockatoos. The sad thing is they are usually young and just going through their puberty when people give up on them. They definitely are a challenge but they need homes and I can give that to them. My children will be on their own in two years and I need something to baby, why not a feathered child. Karen |

That's quite a challenge you have there! Two teenage boys AND toos!
Parrots don't have to become 'monsters' like you sometimes read on boards. But it's very well possible if they aren't brought up well..
I am sure those toos will keep you occupied as your teenagers will move out.. |

Its not only the Too's and the teenage boys that keep me jumping. I also have two cats(15 and 9), a lovebird(12), a chihuahua(2) and a box turtle we have had for six years. Also my husbands job is in another state and he only comes home on the weekends. Thank God I'm in pretty good health and hyper,LOL for 41. Karen |
