What a terrific Thread Ivy,
Well my 1st experiance with a bird was a Mynah bird that my 2nd cousin had and he was a real talker - held me entralled every time that we would visit them..
Then I rescued a Thrush from the Garden (Cat was hunting it) He could not fly and I am sure that his Mum was around somewhere but I could not bear my Cat getting it. So I brought it in and we put it in a little kids seaside bucket"!!! Dunno why but he loved it - he would back into it and sit there rolling up and down the window sill LOL.. Us kids had to go out and dig up worms for him from Garden... He stayed with us for about 6 months - used to fly round the house, and when we used to get home you could see him jumping up and down on the back of the Sofa and when we came in he would dive bomb us to go get him some more worms...
Then spring came and the call of the wild called - and he flew out of a window - he came back to visit for a few days and then Gone - boy did I cry being little... I did not want him to go... Mum even has a photo of me with IKIE (his name) What a bird....
Me and my brother were always rescuing animals - Hedgehogs from the middle of a busy road (in the middle of the Day!!)
And then there were the Swifts that me and Mum saved - but I have taken up enough of all your time..
Anyway always loved birds in any shape or form!! I love everything (except RATS) Sorry Rat lovers...

My father used to breed canaries and finches. I was raised with birds, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, chooks (chickens), and pet mice oh and fish. When I was 14 I was given a budgie for my birthday and I have not looked back since, I just love the parrots. I went from budgies to cockatiels, to cockatoos and a galah, then an indian ringneck (I have also owned a couple of canaries and finches) and now an eclectus. I cannot imagine life without a bird (or a dog). |

I have always loved birds...from as far back as I can remember...my grandma (now passed) bought me "the complete book of australian birds" for my first birthday and I have been pouring over it my whole life....I used to sit for hours looking at the pictures and comparing the birds to the ones we had around our house....the parrot section was always my fav i think it was the colours....but living here in australia and seeing them in the wild it is hard not to love them...###kellie ( i dont like chickens though they scare me bad childhood experience) |
