thinking of adopting a new baby  Reply with quote

Hey everybody,

For the past few months I have been thinking about adding a new bird to my family - I currently have a 2,5 (I guess it is fair to say 3 )year old senegal girl ( I found out her gender) Now I have been thinking really hard - I do not want as big as macaw but definatley bigger than senegal parrot - and there are three breeds that crossed my way - one is eclectus parrot (I would prefer the green male) and then I discovered just watching some movies about parrots in youtube a breed I didn't know about - these are the so called mini macaws - ara servera(severe macaw), then ara auricollis (yellow collar macaw) and even hahn macaw - which is really small compared to other aras....As much as I read about them, they came across as wonderful candidates for my family - I have 6 year old son who is currently learning to handle my senegal Kiwi, so I want a bird that is rather young and can be taught to accept all family members equally(well not equally, lets just say accept) - like with my senegal

Since I live in Estonia, it is practically impossible to find a breeder of any kind of big parrot here so I have to start searching throughout Europe - mostly in Germany, Sweden maybe in UK for the one and only - I was just wondering how is the transportation with parrots in general - it must be very hard for the bird - Some places offer kind of shipping thing and makes me worried if I am ever goignt o pull this off - buying a parrot from abroad Sad

I actually just wanted to ask what do you think about the species I mentioned above? and also what is the average cost of these birds - when keeping in mind I want a fairly young hand-fed tame bird?

I have been going frenzy researching on internet - ufff
Shocked

anyway thanks for your insight....

k.
