Lisa, all birds need 10-12 hours of sleep per night. If your Meyers is being a bit nippy it could also be because of this. Birds get very cranky when they don't get enough sleep just like humans. I don't think your baby crying in the next room would keep him up though. I think once they are put in their cage and start dozing off to sleep they can tune out all the noise in the house. Just think, it isn't exactly quiet in the rain forests at night. But make sure you are putting him to bed early enough so that he's getting enough sleep. If his cage is in a room where you're going to be moving around when you're up late, then you should cover his cage. |

Hey Lisa
It is not essential to cover their cage, but it is very essential that your bird gets at least 10 - 12 hours of sleep each night as Shirin has mentioned. Where about is the cage located? Birds are not able to 'sleep' if the lights are on, they'll doze, but not really sleep. So if it's in an area that is lit, or will get the sun in the morning, then it is probably advisable to cover it up.
Like Shirin has mentioned as well, sounds doesn't really affect birds sleep too much, so it doesn't really matter as much. As long as they get their darkness, it'll be ok with the sleeping arrangements, baby or no baby crying.. |

I keep my cage in the living room on one side you have the kitchen and the light is on and off threw out the night because of fetching baby bottles and on the other side is the window ( the bird is not directly in front of or beside the window) so I guess I should keep the cage covered |

Oh now that you mentioned the window, birds don't respond too well to sudden light coming from outside the window. This may actually scare them and you may end up with a fearful bird that way. I guess if the windows are fully closed at night by the curtain, it'd be a very good idea to cover the cage up at night for that reason.
Take care
Bih |

However, I should say that I really don't know how much sleep my birds get every night. They're covered for about 10 hrs each nite & as far as I know, they sleep pretty much the whole time.
I think it's kind of like with kids, they get cranky when they haven't had enough sleep. |

yeah, I know it probably sounds like a weird name but I like it and it goes for male and female and since I really don't actually know what the sex actually is I called her something that can go both ways. It's also the only name my boyfriend and I can agree on. lol |
