foraging ideas  Reply with quote

I came up with some foraging ideas and my birds seem to like them! Below are some steps of how-to Smile

Birdie Candies
Steps to do;
#1-Get newspaper and bird treats
#2-Wrap the treat in newspaper and twist the ends, so it will look like a candy
#3-Give to the bird
Side Notes- You can wrap more newspaper around the treats to make it more challenging

Treat Box
Steps to do;
#1-Get a (small) box
#2-Put some treats at the bottum of the box
#3-Close top, and tie to the side of cage
#4-Watch bird enjoy!
Side Notes- You could stuff with newspaper and treats to make it more challenging

Hope your birds enjoy Wink

I bet in the morning you will have a BIG mess to clean up, I know when Carrie goes crazy with her foraging things, the birds love them, but you can not see the floor for all the paper on it.... Laughing Laughing Laughing

oh they did. They still have some "candies" in their cages and the remians of the treat boxes. for Petrie, I ran out of little boxes, so I go an envolope and cut the lick part off and put treats in it. He hasnt touched it yet. Cheekie got a box of treats and he loved it. All the treats are gone now, but its still in the cage so he can chew the rest up.

I also love making foraging treats and watch them be discovered. I made some fun material sausages awhile back and stuffed them with goodies. You just take a rectangle of cotton material fold it in half, sew up the bottom and long side. Fill it with goodies and tie the top closed. We would hang these in the cages when we went away for the day. It helps to keep them busy. They weren't very big.....anywhere from 2 inches to 4 inches long and about a bigger than like a marker around. Not all of the birds liked these though.

hehe...Sonnie is always trying to hide in his 'stringy toy'
and I'm always buying shoes...heheheehe.
so I buy extra shoe laces, and cut one side off the smaller shoe boxes, and stuff it with treats in the back, and fill the rest with the shoe laces and random pieces of paper......
He loves them so much, he even sleeps in them sometimes!!!!
after just a couple of days, the box is gone, and there is a huge mess on the floor to be vaccuumed............
I tried giving one to Oskar, but he just pushed it out of his cage....then fell to the floor with it Shocked oops.
Qwill doesn't even pay any attention to them.
I haven't yet tried it out on Aiden....
I'm out of shoe boxes.... Wink
