| Here is a table top gym for my GCC |
|
|
It is 22" high, and about 18" across. The base is untreated pine, the the limbs are maple from my yard. All wood was soaked in 3/1 water/bleach for a day, the rinsed, then soaked in water for a day, then baked @250F for an hour. The screws are stainless steel. Any thoughts?

Amazing. What kind of wood did you use? |

I like it.
One thing i noticed when i made a gym for Laker was how top heavy it was - especially when he takes off & lands on it. We have it on a dresser so it tends to fall into the mirror much to his delight. We have a painter's board underneath to catch the poop & food. I think that in the future I'll attach it to a larger board, like you attached your post, but on our case with this gym I'd need 3 screws.
We also prop up his flex ladder to the base & this allows him access to treats etc. He rarely climbs down.
here's our effort ~

I though about that, I'm looking for one of those plastic trays, like the ones that schools used to use, to attach to the bottom as a feces catcher and to help stabilize it. Alothough it is pretty stable as it is. |

I found a tray from a dog crate, used this tripod that came out of the garbage, and added some more perches. So here's a new picture.

how cool! Are the perches attached to the tray, or is it just balanced there? I can't tell But I hope its attached so it doesn't topple over when your new fid decides to sit on it! |

Yes the perch goes through the tray and has a tension screw that holds it to the tripod. So that the tray and perch are both held tight. In the pic you can see the screw, it is silver, and the bottom of the main branch of the perch. The screw tightend against the perch. I like this set up, because once he chews up the perchs, I can just stick another one in it's place, while still using the tripod and tray.

No problem that's why I posted it, so people could point out potential problems.
Homebird-My bird is being hand fed now, I should have him in about a month. I'm just trying to get ready now. |

No wonder your building. It's the wait that is so hard.
What are you going to build next? Laker our Budgie needs more perches throughout his fly area.
Have you thought of the suction cup ones? They work well in the bath & by windows. We keep Laker's cage by a big window & i have seen others keep the gym by the window. Birds love to watch things go by during the day. [as long as they're not scary things! ] |
