That's great CM!
I give you a few months before you open your front door & have to make your way thru all the jungle of PVC to get to your kitchen No, I'm joking, you have really done a fantastic job on it!
Great looking plans SB! |

I used hay bail twine to wrap around the perches. I'm glad everyone likes After adding on, I probably have $50 into it with leftover parts. I think I used 6- 6' pipes. They were like $2 and some change each. Like I said, VERY inexpensive. |

Chaquita's mom, do the T's just slide down over the pipe, or is each piece cut individually? If they slide over it, how do you keep them from sliding down with Chaquita's weight? If individual pieces, how sturdy is it?
Oh and did you buy the rope pre-made like that, or did you put the end caps/hangers on(If so, how? hot glue?).
Also, does anyone know if 1" pvc is too small for a B&G's feet?(I'm getting some for free) Or would it be too unstable under their weight?
Sorry so many questions.. |

I think 1" diameter is too small to use for all the time, but I think a few pieces would be good. My macaw LOVES swinging upside down on the smaller diameter perches, like in the photos on this diary page

He just isn't able to do that with the larger diameter perches. |

Thank-you inokuma
I think it would be great if you could make some kind of PVC play stand for them using different sized pipes, or tubes.
I know a guy who makes them quite a bit for his macaws, & I'm not sure exactly how he does it, but instead of using glue, he somehow screws the pieces together. |

All the pieces are cut individually and fit quite snugly. The rope is cut-to-length and I just put pvc caps on the ends and filled them with hot glue. Her huge tower that is about 6 feet tall is a little wobbly but I secured it to the ceiling. The smaller ones are very stable. I haven't had any trouble with any of the perches falling off and she is pretty heavy You can find a hot glue gun and hot glue sticks in the craft stores or in the craft department. |

That one looks like it's store bought, but you can probably make them fairly easily. You'd need rope sized for your bird's feet, either wire clothes hanger or another stiff wire, two pvc end caps the size of the rope and a drill or dremmel with drill bit the size of the wire, a pair of needle nose pliers, hot glue gun or other non-toxic glue, and a quick link.
If you can find stiff wire to use instead, you can make it as long as you want since a clothes hanger is only so long... try jewely making supply places for stainless steel wire..
Push the wire through the rope, drill a hole through the center of each end cap, push the wire through the caps and glue the caps onto the rope. use the pliers to create small loops in the wire right above the caps(this will both keep the wire from sliding out and will be what you hang it from). attach a quick link to one end and a bell or other toy's to the other. Bend however you want it, hang, and enjoy!
I haven't actually tried this yet, but assuming there are no problems getting the wire through the rope, or the rope slipping around the wire, it should be very easy to do and work very well... |
