Welcome to My Homepage!

Here is a picture of my beautiful pearl pied cockatiel named Cheeky!

Cheeky by name & cheeky by nature!

He is 3 1/2 years old and loves nothing better than to be scratched, tickled, cuddled and carried around all day.  He is a wonderful talker and has an amazing vocabulary. He is also a great "watchdog" - oops, I mean "watchbird". My family always know when I have arrived home.  Cheeky starts screaming the minute I drive my car into our driveway.

He is very bonded to me. So much so that when he flew away (twice), once to the very large tree in the backyard and once onto the roof of the very high two story house next door, both times I just stood outside and called him and after about 5 minutes he flew straight back down to me and landed (rather clumsily) on my hand. PHEW! It was quite an amusing site to see this little cockatiel sitting on top of this very high house saying "What a lovely day" "Good Boy Cheeky" etc etc.  Another time he flew away and was gone all night.  We had a huge storm that night and we thought that he was gone forever.  We were devastated.  The next day my daughter and I were walking the streets dropping off "Lost Cockatiel" leaflets.  It was about 7.00am and as I walked past this house I heard "hello - watchya doin'". Yes, it was Cheeky, up in this tree, calling out to me.  I think he was just as relieved to see me as I was to see him.  With a ladder and some help from my husband we got him back. Needless to say wingclipping is a major priority at our house now!

"Come on mum, let's see how many people               "This is my favourite climbing tree".

have been looking at my homepage."

Cheeky is a very clever little 'tiel.  He loves to whistle and sing and talks our ears off.  Each morning when I take the cover off his cage he always says "Good morning" or "hello".  Then he pipes up with "What a lovely day!"  "Whatya doin'".  He also says - "give us a kiss", "give us a scratch".  "Good boy Cheeky".  "Hello Nana",  "Chelse, Chelse, Come on". He wolf whistles of course and whistles to the tune of  "Hush Little Baby Don't Say Word".  He is a wonderful performer and loves to dance and sing.  Check out this link to a video of Cheeky singing and dancing to his favourite song "Dance Cheeky Dance Cheeky."  Oh by the way, he wrote his own lyrics and did his own choreography.  Hope you enjoy it!

Introducing "Princess" our rescued Princess Parrot.

The pictures above are of "Princess" just one day after we rescued her.  Doesn't she look just so sick?  I really believe that she would not have lasted another day.  She actually flew into our outdoor area and was pecking at a bottle of Cheeky's seed which I keep in a clear plastic softdrink bottle.  She was very week and I had no trouble picking her up although she didn't really like it.  I put her into our spare cage.  She was so hungry and really really thirsty.  I have never seen a bird drink so much at one time.  But the good news is we have really looked after her and brought her back to health.  Just take a look at her now!  The photos below show what a difference some love and care can do.  Three weeks later and she's looking so much better!
