WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE
Hi! I am Pietertjie!
I am Jolandi's first bird-child. I am a Latino Ringneck Parakeet. I am just over a year old. Jolandi got me last Christmas when she needed someone to keep her company. She bought me at a pet shop at a flee-market. It was a good thing because all those people made me very nervous. I still get nervous and want to bite when people I don't know come and visit us. I cannot say any words yet but I can whistle "Jan Pierrewiet" and make like an ambulance! I sometimes also pretend to be crying. My favorite pastime is to chew on things. I once chewed holes in Jolandi's brand new leather picture frames. She wasn't too happy about that. I also love a good head massage. I usually mock Jolandi when she scratches my head and pretend that I am going to bite her finger. She must like this game because she usually screams her head off! My favorite things to eat, beside leather picture frames, are granny smith apples, pronutro, peanuts, broccoli and litchis. Yum! I love sitting on Jolandi's shoulder. Then I can observe all the interesting things she does like washing the dishes. I had a great big shock a couple of months ago. We found out that I am actually a girl! I didn't get my ring around my neck. Now they sometimes call me Petrotjie! I got a baby brother this year. I didn't like him much at first but now he's actually great fun to play with. We chase each other around and bite each other’s tail feathers. His name is Attie! Hi! I am Attie! Pleased to meet you! Hi! I'm Attie, a Blue Ringneck Parakeet. I am 5 months old now. I have already had a very interesting life. About a week after Jolandi brought me home, I got my toe stuck between two bars in my cage and broke it. Jolandi wasn't home at the time and only discovered me when she came back from work. She rushed me to the vet who said that he cannot really do something and that my toe will heal by itself. After a week my toe got really sore and I thought that by chewing on it I can make it better. So, I chewed and I chewed until you could see the bone. Only then did I realise what I have done! Jolandi took me back to the vet who put some tincture on the wound. This burned like hell and I couldn't help but to chew some more. I compulsively chewed on my toe for a whole week. Jolandi found out that corn flour works really well to stop the bleeding. This helped me to stop chewing my toe. About a week after I stopped chewing my toe I took a trip around the neighborhood. I got out of the house by accident. Only when I got bored with all the new and interesting things did I realize that I was lost. I then flew from rooftop to rooftop and called for Jolandi. After about the 50th rooftop, I though it was over for me. I was hungry and thirsty and the sun was unforgiving. I gave one last loud cry and to my surprise Jolandi and Leon, her boyfriend came running out of one of the houses. They were so happy to see me. They called back to me and I flew down to them. They gave me food and water and put me in my cage. At last I was home. I will never ever fly away again. I can now enjoy the comforts of home with all my favorite snacks and toys. More Photos! This is my good friend Wessie. He is a policeman. I love playing with his rank insignia! A while ago he got a little African Grey. But the little thing fell ill and died shortly after.
I love a good "koppiekrap"!
I love kissing my mommy...
...and playing with my ball...
...and hanging upside down from my cage!
