Hi, My name is Olive.  My nickname is Chicken Bones among many others.  I was born around February 2004.  I'm a Senegal Parrot of course.

Here I am in my favortie tree.  It's fake and I like to rip it apart!  My family keeps putting the leaves back on so I have endless play...

Here's one way I got my nickname.  It's also because of my skinny legs!

How we almost lost Olive

What a story.  On or about May 5, 2006,  while I was at work, my wife calls me crying, “Olive flew away” (our ).  She had the door open a crack as we did 1000 times but this time he took off and out of sight. We had his wings clipped about three weeks before but he was able to stay in the air.  I rushed home and we searched, whistling and calling.  I found him in a tree but another bird spooked him and he flew farther away.

We searched more and then it started getting dark.  We heard a noise once that sounded like Olive but he didn’t make enough noise to find him.  We were devastated but I hoped he didn't go far.

The next morning I was out at 5:45am.  I knew he starts squawking at 6am.  He belts out a couple of loud ones but then he usually quiets down.  I walked up and down the block.  I then got in my car drove down the block where he was last seen heading.  At 6am I heard the squawk!  I drove down a bit more and the second squawk!  I got out of my car and stayed still, I heard his whistle that he calls me with, I turned around in front of the last house on the block and he made another noise.  I went over to a bush and there he was!  I grabbed him and figured if he bit me I would let him chew to the bone because I'm not letting go!

I got him in the car and drove home.  I grabbed him again (by the way, no biting) ran in the house and woke everyone up, "I GOT HIM! I GOT HIM!"

We all gathered to get him water and food.  He was tired and hungry.  Actually as he ate his turkey burger he tried to put one leg up as to go to sleep!  After a few minutes of eating he tucked his head in and went right out.  He slept most of the day but he was his old self after a couple of more days.

Don't assume they can't fly after clipping.  Inside the house is much different than outside where they have room to let loose with their wings.

Olive gets lots of kisses.
