Peter's birdhouse
This is a first attempt to create on Fluffies a homepage , so what can I tell and show. I am Peter Tak, have since 1992 birds in my house, till 2004 that were "only?!" budgies, always a couple. This because than they have company when I am not there. Now I do not work as much anymore as before and can also work from my home, so had the opportunity to house also other (bigger) parrots.
In 2004 after the death of one of my budgies I bought a Kakariki hen.

Ko surprised me with many things. She was completely different opposite what I was used from my budgies. They are very active small parrots, like to walk and do that fast, eat by taking food in their feet, a thing a budgie never does. Also kakariki's make very little noise and are very gentle birds.
Unfortunately Ko was allowed only a short time with me. My budgie Grijs was here first and still lives here, but Ko did die 10 may 2007. Here death was very surprising because she was not ill, it was (sounds simple, but it was that way) a sudden heart failure that caused her death.
Here I still have a nice shot of both budgie Grijs and kakariki Ko.
As I have done always before, my budgies should have a "partner", so after the death of Ko a new budgie was bought. Since may 2007 I have two budgies again. Grijs is a subtype English budgie and Rini is a "normal" budgie. I still have check the correct English subtypes.

In 2005 In the local petstore I saw a red parrot, a for me unknown species, be a very beautiful parrot. As more often I looked around and spoke to the owners of the store. They told me it was a female eclectus. From that moment on I used all my free time to check the internet and a few books about parrots, special the eclectus. Also I went back to the store several times.
It did not take long before I decided to buy her.
With kakariki Ko the start was made to look further than only budgies, but after buying April (the name she had and I continued to use) I was really "taken" by a "birdvirus"
In her behavior she is a real eclectus female, probably a nature bread, because she was for sure not hand tame as I have learned from my other ekkies. It did not matter and despite my hands or arms were regularly bit up raw, my passion did only grow.
Because of this I decided in 2006 to complete the "couple" and was allowed to adopt an eclectus red sided male. Iwan was really completely different. It is common that the male has different behavior that the female, but the difference because Iwan was a handbreed was very big.
Iwan and April have sat for over a year in separate cages, but were allowed to sit together outside of their cage.
As expected in the beginning they did not want to know much from each other, but as time went by the sat more and more together. They even sometime beaked friendly.
Since july 2007 they both share a beautiful and bigger cage. They are not a close couple or pair, but everthing is going better by the day. Regular they sit together, beak friendly of even feed each other. Of course on other moment they like to go their own way, but who does not do that.
I planned for some, time that when April and Iwan could be housed in one cage, I would have room for a couple smaller parrots. After giving it a real though I concluded that smaller parrots like caique's, cockatiels, maracana's are nice, but my heart goes out to the eclectus. After I chose for the eclectus it went fast.
I was lucky that two breeders from other boards that I visit had a young female and male eclectus of about the same age. As usual the place advertisements and after seeing the pictures my heart went into a higher gear. At first the female was already going to someone else, but when they did not hold their promise, I took my chance and was allowed to buy both parrots. Because of this since I have since august 2007 a second couple of eclectus in my home.

The female is named Franka and the male Frodo. They came to me on the same day and share one cage from day one. I had a spare cage for emergencies, but luckily I did not need that option. Very soon they will get a new cage. The cage that they have is nice, but the difference between the cage of April and Iwan is to big, so Franka and Frodo will soon receive a new and bigger cage.
This is updated per October 4, 2007. To conclude I like to show some extra pictures of my ekkies.

April and Iwan on the cage of Franka and Frodo. This is a picture of the day that the youngest couple arrived. The breeder of Frodo AND Iwan checks to see if everything is going okay.
Here a picture of myself with April on my shoulder, Franka on my arm and Iwan on the couch.
and finally four recent pictures of April, Iwan, Franka and Frodo.
