What a lovely IRN you have there.
I think you may have a male.
I have a female IRN named Caruso:)
Have fun with him. |

yes Anna i think he is a male also, good to see someone else with a bird like mine,I recently owned a Lutino RN,but she passed away at 14mths old it was gut renching to go through but, found this Blue RN named Mylo who has help tremendously through the grieving process, and he is clipped but travels everywhere with me at home front/back yard and sits inside the car for now so evetually i can go driving with him and more. |

Yes,it's normally about 40-48 days in the wild, but because we aren't there true parents to teach them they will learn on there own(maybe a week or two). You will notice you bird will flap on one spot time to time meaning (l'll call you bird he)he is experimenting with his new found wings, then comes the fun part .Once he realises ,that he has them he will try to lift, flapping crazy in one spot and feeling movement in the air.he will then experiment and bounce of to see what happens, but before he tries he will move his head around left right up down then lift, which normally ends in crashing, but thats alright ,for he will try time and time again till he flies a short distance.Just don't worry, but be careful where he crashes and if you can break the fall and help him.
Follow
when he does it(just like mum and dad would do in the wild).Pick him up and go back to where you started but don't force him he will see it's okay and know you will follow if he crashes(don't worry if he does crash just give him plenty of room for you will notice walls are the first stopping point ) Confidence will build and before you know it, you won't be sitting down to long for a long time.Look at his secondary feathers and see how long they are
but be careful
for they are growing and full of blood in which case if you aren't sure don't try it.. :shock:The secondary feathers are his most important flight feathers, there the ones we clip when needed.Every time he tries even when he achieves a short distance go to him an praise him them take him back to you. Then before you know it he will fly to you all the time knowing you are his safe pad... |
