No, this is not a disease. Tabu is a feather clipper. She probably came from the commercial parrot breeding business, where eggs are hatched in breeding machines. The chickens are brought up by humans, feeding them by hand. That is to say...some sort of tube with fluid bird food, which is brought into the chick's beak. They have to grow fast, you see. then they are brought to the pet shop and sold. You can imagine how these birds lack from normal socializing and bird behaviour. In periods of stress they can develop this feather-damaging habit. One needs to adapt his/her own behaviour in order to make the bird feel comfortable. Her former owners were having family problems themselves, so they could not change their behaviour. For the well-being of Tabu they searched for another home. That's how she came to live with me.
