Indian Ringneck Help (Please)  Reply with quote

So I finally went out and got me a IR, bad part was I did not get a hand tame baby. I rescued one from some first time bird owners who got him from a pet shop. According to them he is around one year old. It seems like the only personal contact with the bird is with gloves on, which has unfortunately turned the bird into a total spaz. He totally freaks out when I come near his cage, flopping around and screeching. I have done allot of research on them and I know I need to give him some time, it has been a couple of weeks now, I softly speak to him every day. He is in a central location so he feels like one of the family. Does anyone have anymore suggestions for me? Anything else I can do? This is not my first rescue, I was able to calm down a total spaz of a Senegal, that would viciously attack my wife at the drop of the hat. So i am not a rookie, but nothing seems to work with this guy. I did let him out of his cage one day, he wanted absolutely nothing to do with me, but he also was not aggressive towards me, just wanted to stroll around the house. Well enough rambling for now.
Thank you in advance for any and all replies.

Smile my IR was like that too well he still is a little, i only have 6months with him too, and your story is similar, but i got him from a guy on the street, that was selling alot of birds, i hold him with gloves at first, because he was very agressive, one time i tried to hold him with no gloves, and i got a bite, in one of my fingers, started bleeding, didn't try it again, you can try holding him with a t-shirt, not to big please, and just hold him this will help him calm down, and talk to him soft, very important, i'm still working on him he still a little scare but he is getting it! open his cage a little but don't push him to get out, your bird will start doing it on his own, don't worry, everything will be ok! good look with your little baby!
