Hi I was just wondering if anyone esle has ever seen this or if anyone else knows what i means... I was playing with Zazu in the bathroom, more or less a training session, and it was flickering its tongue inside its mouth really fast.... almsot like panting, maybe thats what it was I am not sure.. Just wondering if anyone knew what that was or if it meant anything.. It was our first session, And it was Zazu's first encounter outof its cage.. I carried it upstairs and it was a bit to get it out of its cage as its not used to me really... I have only had it about a week.... It did ok though was starting to step up a little bit without biting to much after about 15 minutes or so.... Is it ok to take it out of its cage like that for some quiet one on one teaching time??? BTW, Zazu is 5 months old.... Thanks in advance....Coleen |

I cannot completely tell by your description, but moving the tongue back and forth and all around in a crazy motion can be a sign of arousal. It doesn't look like panting though, they don't breathe hard. Since he is still a juvenile, I am not sure.

My Jibby has been doing this lately too! He will stick his tongue out the side of his beak almost like hes being a smarty and making silly faces! He does it very quickly too. I dont know why he does it? He is almost 7 years old.
It makes me laugh though because it looks so silly and he does it when Im not expecting it! Like when Im taking a picture of him. Intentional funny face?
I wish I could help you here. |

Sorry I thought you meant outside the beak
Jibby does this in our bathroom too.. you mean really fast flickering against the upper part of the beak? (forgot what called) Jibby usually does this when I'm having a shower. I think he could be drinking the mist from the shower? I really hope its not a sign of arousal in my case!
I originally thought hes just tasting the air because this is also how he gets the juice out of fruit aswell. |
