hi all
i have had the 2 ringneck parakeets now for about 4 months and they fight all the time so i put one outside the cage on a perch attached to the cage from outside and female inside. The male is poor and kind but the female is very ferocios and keeps on biting him on the foot,,, so anybody can help me as i really like them to be good friends is it time related or what is the problem or they will hate each other forever but they are eating well no depression alls normal
and by the way everytime i put a newspaper she will shred it into pieces with her beak and feet,,,very funny but is this normal or it indicates any thing
thank u all

HI Amir
sorry to hear that your birds aren't getting along. Chances are they'll just tolerate each other, but never really getting along.
You'll find that a lot of parrots like to tear things up with their beak and feet. Unless you can tell that she's doing it specifically for nest building (usually she leaves them in a clump and sits and weave around in the mess of paper), then it's just something that they like doing. My major mitchells would just shred any pieces of paper they get their little beak on. |

hey Amir.
I would advice against using kitty litter if your birds have access to it. If they swallow it, it may impact their crops. not a good thing.
Newspaper is fine, the inks should be toxic anymore. AT least that is the case here in AUstralia anyway. |

Amir,
Sorry to hear they still aren't getting along. I know you really want them to be friends... I know you posted that before, but as Bih said, they might just learn to tolerate each other at best. Just like people, birds are very discriminating with each other. They often don't just like anyone. I am thinking it's a bit of territoriality... they are on the same cage, and if they are not friends, the dominant one will try to claim the territory.
I have never had birds who were great friends, so I just have everything separate, and handle them separately... doesn't bother me at all. I guess we each have our preferences, and remember, so do our birds! Good luck...
