As an eclectus owner I do not know much about the Indian ringneck. But I assume a lot of the action in taming are about the same.
First step is to let your bird get to know his home and his owner. By sitting with him and talking I think this can be seen as the first step.
Second try to bribe your bird and show him you are not afraid. If you know what he likes best, offer it by hand to him. Of course you might be bitten, but by accepting that he sees that his biting does not make you afraid. Also he learns that your hands are not to be afraid of. They even give him sweets. This way you gain his trust.
If the biting is to severe than you can try giving him some sweets wearing gloves.
As soon as he knows that your hands are nothing to be afraid of, than you also can try to play with a ball, stick or something else he likes. Most of the time they get interested. By this they will come to you and check out what you are doing.
Hopefully this helps or that someone else has some good tips. |

Ya know I wish I could help more, But all I can say is that repetition, patience, and not giving up... I got my Indian Ringneck at 5 months old so a little different situation although he is just now getting to the point where I have seen my hard work and patience pay off and it has been a lil over a year.... He is still a lil hand shy but he follows me all over the house, eats from my mouth(good and bad I have heard) and lil things like that. i know it gets frusterating and u want so bad to just hold him and love him but dont give up...... maybe its just time and adjusting... dont forget they do live quite sometime so 6 moinths is really not too long to have been working with him/her.... Do you know if it is male or female... I have a male who thank god has taken to me since I bought him for me... but I have heard that females can be more defiant than males .... good luck and keep up the good work....~Coleen |
