Would it be ok to offer Pat some? I'm thinking since he loves the flower nectar, why not this stuff.... any advice? |

I would imagine that it's ok, but I've never had hummingbirds nectar since there's not hummingbird around here. What does it have in the mixed? |

I don't know? I know they're offering nectar to the loris here in a birdpark but I don't know about the kind of nectar? |

I make hummingbird nectar for my feeders with 1 part granulated sugar to 4 parts of water, & as far as I know that's what they sell in the stores too, but I'm not sure about that. |

let's see, the bottle I have is from Garden Song (nice name, love it, hehehe) and it's called Ready-to-Use Hummingbird Food. 100% Sucrose, Simulates the nectar from flowers. 100% Saccharose. It has an AHT symbol for Advanced Hydration Technology and the ingrediencts are Water, Sucrose, Red #40, and Sodium Benzoate.
I let him taste a capful of the stuff and he made the weirdest noise, a new one for us.... I put it to the equivalent to Lory purrs... he finished the whole cap but it's all I gave him... we don't need a fat Pat here, hehehe... he's wigging out right now as he's watching me with the bottle in front of me, hehehe.... the computer room is also his room, hehehe. Anyhoot... he just loves the stuff... thanks for your suggestions. |

There would be no problem with the water and sucrose, but the colour and solium benzoate might be a worry. The colour is not natural, and anything that sounds like salt? can't be good. I'm only guessing tho. I'm not even sure what sodium benzoate is. I'm sure as an occasional treat it would be fine |

hmmm, that sounds ok, but only as the occasional treat I'd think. I think it is suggested that Lories don't get too much 'sugary' stuff... you know like honey and stuff.. Now I realised that that's what their mix is, but to be on the safe side, and on the thin side of Pat, I'd say just for treats.. may be once a week or a fortnight? Not sure. |

Yeah,, I figured it'd be only used as a treat for Pat, I was thinking Sunday's would be good or him. Sunday is usually his longest walk (or hop) around the house day, so the excercise might be good to burn off the sugar energy from his capfuls... I think I'll limit it to one or two. Thanks guys, for the insights. |
