| My baby only eats mash |
|
|
I have a 4 month old rainbow lory. I feed him a really great mash everyday, I make it fresh every morning. This works well, but I'm trying to get him to eat other things. He doesn't eat fruits, veggies, dry nectar, anything but my special mix. I just got some pellets to try and he won't even go over to eat his mash if they're anywhere near it. Any suggestions? I've tried everything I can think of......eating in front of him, etc. I've gone as far as leaving it outside his cage just so he gets used to seeing it, still he will go nowhere near anything different. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

Hey there.
First of all congrats on your baby rainbow. They are such great bird!!
How hav eyou been trying to get it to eat other stuff? may be you can try not giving it any of the special mash you make and only give it water and the dry mix, or fruits... Don't feed it the mash... Hopefully the hunger will get it's curiousity going and try out other stuff that's there for him. But put the mash back in and give it to him before he goes to bed so get gets at least one good feed before he goes to bed. It's a suggestion, hope that'll work for you. |

Hi there and welcome. Its great to have another lorrie owner here. There aren't to many of us But sorry I really can't help with your problem. My rainbow lorrie Pilot will try anything I put in front of him. Since he likes the texture of the mash maybe you could make up a wet mix with a similar texture? worth a try. I use the one of a website that is on another of my posts on the lorrie forum |

Is it warm? I found they tend to go for warm food. maybe try giving him the mash as a meal morning and night and have other food available in between. I'm supprised he hasn't taken to fruit and veg, sometimes you can add a tiny bit of honey to something at first till he gets the idea also if he can be in his cage next to other birds in theirs he will see them eat and hopefully copy |
