Hope everybody is doing well...i need help to figure my bird out. Things have been going really great with her. The initial problems we had have all sorted out. She just needed some time and now i cant keep her away from me
Anyways ive been noticing a few behavioural traits of hers and i cant figure them out. The first thing is her happy hut...she seems tooo fond of it if u know what i mean ...to put if frankly she humps it....a LOT.. now everywhere ive read it says this is a male trait...and that you shouldnt try and stop them as it could lead to them getting depressed and frustrated and turn to feather plucking. What do you think? should i remove her hut? personally im not in favour of removing it. she seems to enjoy it so much...sleeps in it everynight. its her safety blanket.
Now the other thing is that any bit of paper she finds she shreds to bits and sort of tucks them under her feathers. From what ive read this is a female trait and that shes nest building. So therein lies my delimma....is Prettygirl a girl or a boy?? im totally confused. i know the only sure way to know is to get her DNA tested but i dont want to do that. Im not bothered either way about her sex ...i just want to understand these conflicting habits of hers and what they mean.
One other thing is that recently she has gotten into the habit of climbing on top of my head and just nestling down there. i read that you shouldnt encourage this cuz it makes them feel dominant and aggressive. But i feel bad not letting her do this...she seems to love it soo much...as soon as she sees me she trys her hardest to get onto my head ...its really funny
so what do you think guys? help please

I think your bird is male.. Sammie does it, and Flit used to do so too. Hahaha! (But I'm not sure as you also said that he or she shreds paper and puts it under the feathers.. That's female behavior??)
I think you might want to distract your birdy.. Or remove the objects he is using for it. Perhaps you can give him another hut? Chances are the behavior stops with another hut.
