Does anyone give their LB peanuts? And if so, how? Do you crush them up?

Yikes Cathy, no I don't give Flit peanuts.. Many Dutch people stay away from peanuts for parrots as they would contain molds etc harmful for parrots. (Can be fatal?)
However, processed, it shouldn't be a problem as Harrisons uses peanuts in their pellets. The shell is the part where the mold can be found, if I'm correct. Personally, I don't feed peanuts at all. Some people claim that the mold can also spread to the nut itself.

I have seen many diets (I think also the avian naturals mac and too mix) that contain inshell peanuts. I think this is strange as avian naturals is a respected brand in my opinion?

Well, anyway.. I'd stay away from peanuts.. Smile There are so many other good nuts to give! Smile

Cathy I don't give my lovebirds peanuts, but they LOVE almonds, and also pecans and pistachios. I don't crush them, I just hold the nut in my hand and they bite pieces off the nut while I'm holding it. They love it Smile

Oh yikes! I do give Manu peanuts as treats quite a bit, inside the shell! Maybe I better not anymore.

I do have some pecans, but they're inside the shells too. I'll crack some & offer them to Dilly Very Happy

Cathy, I'm not sure whether the statement that peanuts contain molds is true, as I never heard this statement outside the Netherlands?
Over here, it is widely spread.

Pecans? How luxurious!
Do you know about macadamias? They are also luxurious nuts, and one of the best to offer your birds. They contain lots of vitamins!
A healthy snack! Smile

It's true, Greys are prone to calcium deficiencies, so it is a great nut to offer them Very Happy Bunny usually loves all sorts of nuts, she mainly gets almonds, pecans, and pistachios too. I've tried to find macadamia nuts, but I never find them at a regular grocery store Rolling Eyes I guess I have to go to a special nut store, or a healthfood store.

Shirin, have you tried to find them online? I know greyfeathertoys.com offers them. They're also organic if I'm right?

They're very high in fat but also very very nutritious! Smile

I had a look for the macadamia for Apollo, man, they cost like $35/kilo! That's like the most expensive nuts I've ever come across!! SO I haven't actually got any for Apollo yet. though he does get almonds, walnuts, cashews and sometimes peanut.

You know, my aunt gave me a very large bag of pecans & Manu just loves them!

Mmmmm, macadamia nuts! When my family vacationed in Hawaii years ago, I first experienced them & they are wonderful, aren't they? Hubby always goes to some place called the ""Nut House" here in town around Christmas time to stock up on all kinds of nuts & he always gets a great big bag of mixed stuff for Manu. This year I'm going to ask him if he'll splurge on Macadamians Very Happy
