| Progress of Kailani |
|
|
Kailani is making great progress today! She still likes to fly atop my computer (which is something she does a lot when she's on her tree, I'm thinking of moving it someplace else xP), and this morning she nipped me slightly when I took her down but the last 2 times she didn't nip me at all. She seems more comfortable on my arm now than she did before.
I'm now using the world "gentle" with her and before I would say step up and step down, but after I read the little information sheets Wendy sent me I started saying just up and down (which is what Kailani was taught) and it's working much better with her.
She had been out for an hour and a half so I decided to put her back for a little while, she stepped up well onto the perch I fastened on her door and I gave her a brazil nut before closing the door. I cooed her and watched her eat it for a minute or two and for the first time I saw deep affection for me in her eyes, and that makes me really happy. Right now she's playing in the bottom of her cage, and she seems really happy. She's calmed down a lot since yesterday, and I think she's starting to realize this is her new home.
I'm so happy she seems to like all of us, maybe me a little more than my mom because she is a little intimidated by Kailani. She was concerned at first with the nipping but it's definately cut down since yesterday. I had to try to convince her that Kailani's nips are NOTHING compared to my Meyer's nips, and I'm still trying to comprehend that myself x) Kailani leaves marks but Kiwi leaves pain. It's funny how that works.
Anyway, I just wanted to give you all a detailed update I'm totally falling in love with Kailani. I hope soon she'll feel the same <33 |

Awww! It sounds like everything is going so well! And it sounds like Wendy did a wonderful job bringing her this far! I'm sure you will carry that on!
You know, some of my family are still a little bit intimidated with Manu too & his large beak, but he has NEVER bit me as hard as my Sennie has!
I can't wait for more photos |

Yup! Wendy is AMAZING, and so professional! She sent me a tub full of sprouted grains and food samples as well as Kailani's paperwork and print outs and all sorts of things. I even got a letter opener with Wendy's Parrots on it, and a little red heart shaped keychain that says "I love my parrot from Wendy's Parrots" on it, it's SO adorable!
She's still a bit nervous and kind of quiet today, she yelled a few times last night, and BOY is she loud!! It was amazing, and hilarious. Every time she yelled, it sounded like my mom when she screams (when she's scared of something like a mouse x3) and it made me jump 10 feet. It's going to take some getting used to since the house is usually quiet with only little birds x3
I hope she gets more comfortable in the next week or so, she's fitting in wonderfully. She loves the big swing I got her, and is always sitting in it. It was worth the $50 I payed for it
I'll definately try to take more pictures of her, and hopefully of her AND me! It's a little hard though since I have trouble with her trying to climb onto my shoulder, so it would be difficult to try to take a picture of her unless I placed her on my shoulder and snapped a quick shot! She's a fun bird. |

Here's one more picture I took of her just a few minutes ago on her tree. She's playing with one of her foot toys that I draped over her perches x) |

Kailani and I had our first cuddle tonight!!! Just like 10 minutes ago!! I'm SO happy! I thought it would take longer for her to trust me. It was AMAZING for such a large beautiful wild parrot to lean against me and let me rub her anywhere I wanted. Such an amazing feeling. I'll try to get a picture of it if she'll let me do it again! |
