Im soon going to buy a B&G macaw but i have a big concern about the parrot.

Im maybe going to get a job soon will it be a problem to leave the B&G macaw alone that time ? is that a reason enough to not even THINK of buying the parrot???

Answers will really be apreciated thanks

Keep in mind that ANY kind of pet needs attention, but yes of course you can have a life away from your bird Smile . Parrots are very adaptable animals, but you also have to examine why you want a bird, and think how into it you really are (and will be long term). I have had parrots for 14 years, and over the years I have heard many people think that you have to be with your parrot near constantly, which is not true at all. I have had many periods in my life (including now) where my birds didn't get very much attention every day. Still they appreciate the quality of the attention that I give. My birds have learned from the start that they have to be independent. They are into the routine of expecting that. I have been a working person, and otherwise busy for all of those 14 years that I have had birds, and have been the sole caretaker/owner of them. I have medium-large parrots. I know many others who do it too. Of course you can leave your parrot and go to work!! If you can't, you have made it WAY to spoiled rotten!! Leave him with enough interesting toys and a big enough cage, and let him know what you expect from the beginning. Just use the same common sense that you would when considering buying a dog. Daily cleaning, change food and water, time for love, time out of the cage (but you don't have to take it for walks like you do a dog) Smile

You're welcome Smile but keep in mind too, that if you are a busy person, there most likely will be some days over the years that you will be frustrated with the responsibility. It's not nearly as easy as it sounds... especially with the big birds or multiple birds. Do you have any other interactive type of pets, or have you ever in the past? It is a real commitment. Can you see yourself dealing with the commitment years from now when you are busy and the "new" novelty of it has worn off? Even when you love them dearly, I will tell you the truth, it gets pretty hard sometimes when you are tired, not in the mood, feel ill, or just plain don't have time, and you still have to clean daily (big bird = big job) and say hi to him and give some love. Regardless, this animal will depend on you for it's well being and happiness long term. Think about that Smile

I'd say that to be concerned is a good thing, but if you are truly "worried" then maybe you should hold off until you are more confident about it?

Why a B&G Macaw? Have you considered a different species or a smaller bird?

Zahra, Thank you so much!! Smile I haven't posted any new ones in a long time. Robin and Gryffin are really easy to keep, but Starion is like having a pet monkey!

Starion (girl) is used to the amount of attention she gets, it's just that she's an extrovert. Not shy at all, and always on the go - super active. She just reminds me of a really hyper monkey.

Aww, thank you!! Smile Everyone who meets or sees my birds always says Gryffin is their favorite! She has a very good temperament and is very easy to keep for a larger bird. I got lucky with her. Not all Eclectus are like her.
