Young or not too young?  Reply with quote

Im soon getting a B&G macaw but i have a choice between 2 macaws the first one is a 5 months old one and he is weaned the other one is 8 weeks old and can get him about a month when he will be weaned but he is missing a toe.

(Is a missing toe something that will give him a handicap in eating or other things? )

I want the very young macaw so it can get used to me and i can see it grew up but dont know if it is too young ???

I dont have experience with macaws and im confues about what i should choose,

Zahra

as long as you wait until the young one is weaned I don't see it being a problem Smile . as far as the toe goes I don't really know, I don't THINK so but I've never owned a large parrot...

Hi there, welcome to fluffies Smile

What made you choose a macaw? They are quite high maintenance Laughing
No, the missing toe should not affect its life in any major way. Birds are very adaptable, and I'm sure this Macaw will do just fine without the one toe. May I just ask if this was a birth defect, or did he lose a toe in an accident?

There really is not that much difference between a 5 month old, and a 2 month old Macaw. They are both very young babies, and both can get used to you the same. The missing toe should certainly not factor into your decision making, because that bird will be just as good and lovable as the one who has all the toes. So I would say, just go with which ever bird you like best.

Smile I have a bird who has a deformed foot, she is missing one toe, and the others are crooked and short, but it makes her all the more special. So I agree with you Smile

Hi there and welcome to fluffies! Very Happy
I think the macaw that is 2 months old is a little young to come home. Or do you let the breeder wean him?
I think both birdies would be a good choice. Just see which one appeals (is that the right word?) most to you. Very Happy
