I used to make
braided rope
on the farm - braiding many more pieces than the 3 we use in our hair. I tried it a few years ago & have kind of forgotten how it goes - but with a bit of practice surely we can remember ....
I haven't thought to harvest for the winter months - the little devils are eating everything i get - but that's a good idea - maybe store it on the balcony........or raid my Dad's hay barn!
Today when i was out i clipped some willow as well - to add stability & structure to the next mat. Willow is on the safe list thank goodness.
Thanks for the sympathy regarding Vive - yes it is hard - she was so wonderful & a good pal. Over the years I've had many wonderful pets - you always want the best for them & it would be wonderful if they could stay a bit longer - unfortunately with old age there is not a lot you can do to give them the quality of life you want for them. Vive was great up until the last second so we have that to remember.

I had a rough couple of years during which all of my pets died. When the last one went, I decided I wouldn't get another pet. I'd be free of the emergency vets, special travel arrangements, homemade diets, poop, mess, expense...and the heartbreak at the end. So, wouldn't you know, four more animals walked into my life-- all unadoptable, in need of my expertise. Funny thing, though: I now think I needed them more than they needed me!
The rope I made was twisted until it twisted back on itself. I'll have to try it again. Also, I just discovered this one-- Since the cap of a ball-point pen is safe for my bird's size, I clip it to the cage wires or one of her twigs and put a miniature boquet in it. I haven't bothered with water in it, but that would be a way to keep treats crisp in this hot weather. |
