greetings and well met (that's my first post here)
I got a young male rosella two days ago (they told me he's four months old). I've never had a parrot or parrot like bird before.
He eats constantly and does not yet climb around the cage, nor does he chirp.
I suppose he's still frightened but I'm quite concerned about him eating all the time.
How much should he eat?
Should I remove the food from the cage? |

Hi, and welcome. Unless he's getting fat I wouldn't be concerned, is he getting a balanced diet? Plenty of fresh fruit and veg as well as seed/pellets? |

Hi! Welcome here!
I agree with Shells.. Unless he's getting fat you shouldn't worry about this. By the way, chances are he's just nibbling and not eating most of the crumbs..
You can make your own homepage and diary to add photos, did you see?
Here's some more info on how to..

Thanks!
I'll take a look around. This site has enough stuff to keep me occupied for quite some time.
I know it may sound stupid but.... how can you tell when a bird is starting to get obese?? I mean, he's already... well... fluffy enough. |

Hi there Vis
To make sure that your bird isn't getting too fat, feel him/her around it's keel bone... The chest area... and if you can just feel it with flesh sits nicely on either side of it, then it's doing well. However if you can feel the flesh only and no bone structure there, it is getting a little too fat. On the otherhand you don't want to feel too much of the keel bone, it means that you bird is underweight. Weigh him regularly... roughly once a week is recommended, and watch his weight that way. If you're happy with the way he is now, then keep it around that weight. |
