I'm really sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm new and still figuring it all out
My parakeet won't eat any fruits and veggies but broccoli. Is there a way to get him to try new things? I don't want him to get sick or anything
And how does one sprout seeds?

Well at least your baby is eating Brocolli!! there's a lot of birds out there that refuse to eat even the tiniest bit of green!!
I'd say just keep trying different things and cut them into different shapes and sizes! You might even want to eat it in front of baby and show it how tasty it is!!
Sprouting seeds are pretty easy. I normally sprout the seeds that I give to the budgies. Basically, I soak them in water over 24 hours, but changing the water a few times in that 24 hours. Then, I pour out all the water and just leave the jar there...I rinse the seed every two hours or so to keep it from going bad. You should start to see little sprouts coming out soon. Once I see sprouts, I put the jar into the fridge to keep fresh. rinsing that as well.
I'm sure other people may have other suggestion for sprouting seeds.
Oh just on that, I sometime grow the seeds to little 'grass' in a chinese take away plastic container things (I can take a pic of one if you want to see it), and put the whole container into the cages and aviaries for my budgies. They prefer that over veggies any day!! LOL... |

I agree with Bih, keep offering the veggies & in a variety of ways. It may seem very wasteful, but just don't give a lot at each serving. Try mixing them in other things, & even mashed. I first got my fids to eat veggies by mixing them in scrambled eggs, which they all love! |

I still feed that to them Bih & they really do like it. I started out chopping the veggies into real small pieces, but now I use fairly large chunks. |

We had the opposite problem with our Sennie... he wanted just fruits, veggies, and fatty nuts. He wouldn't eat the pellets or smaller seeds from his feed. He would only pick out the peanuts or sunflower seeds. So, we baked him his own muffins! We made them from scratch so we could leave out all the extra sugar and stuff, and mixed in his pellets and seeds- he loved them, but we did have to break them into small pieces for him. Maybe this would work for your bird, but with fruit in the muffins instead? |

Don't they just love the scrambled eggs?! Mine do as well, and they also eat the veggies..
But the macaws didn't like the egg? They do like veggies! |

One thing I think everyone forgot, it can take weeks to months to get them to try. Just keep offering, in different forms, cooked, mashed, tiny bits, mixed with food, etc...... Chaquita is used to trying things that I eat. I have to have a bite first before she'll even think about touching it If I stick a whole apple (for instance) in front of her, she'll be like OMG!!! GET IT AWAY BEFORE IT EATS ME!!! So I don't recommend offering the "whole" friut or veggie (so to speak). Also, if you have a food dehydrater, you can also have less waste You can serve dehydrated or let some items soak in water, or cook them and serve later |

I was lucky with harley after about 3 or 4 days he would try everything, He does get bored tho so i hang his on a fruit spear about once or twice a week, and also tie it on string. He aslo likes having them in a carboard box hanging that he has to chew through to get the fruit and veggis?!?!?!?
Good luck
