| Rice Cakes, Apple Pie & Granola - first foods after seed |
|
|
My Budgie Laker was on an all seed diet when I got him & it stiil is 95% seed. I have introduced some pellets but there is little interest in anyting new. Obviously a common problem.
For the past few months I've been trying to get him interested & the only way seems to be sharing whatever I eat. He landed in my morning cereal the first time - on top of honey covered Corn Flakes in Milk. It wasn't too sticky but he was only interested in the milk - guess he was looking for protein. Unfortunately his stomach didn't likethe milk & he had loose poop for a day. I used some Cider Vivegar in his water to sooth his stomach - it either worked or didn't add to the problem, as he was OK the folowing day.
When I bake I try to get him to try raw veggies & fruit - the only success so far is the Apple ribbons I drape into his cage - he likes to chew them.
I've taken a few photos while he samples Organic Granola, Home made Apple Pie & Organic Brown Rice Cakes.
Budgies don't eat much & they do make a mess - like any bird - only Budgie size.

He also likes cookies & carrot cake that I make - the only store bought things he's had are the Organic Cereal and the odd Almond Cookie from our local baker & only a taste at that. |

persistence and patience are the key... my budgies wanted nothing to do with greens before, but now they chow down whenever they see the vegs.
Try giving it in different form, chopped up, cubed, whole leave hang from the top/side of cage, jsut be creative.. try all different veggies as well... corns, carrots, peas, anything that's save for them, raw or cooked.
Good luck.. oh and laker is looking great too in the pics. he looks like he's really enjoying his food. |

Awwww! Such cute pictures I bet it did your heart good seeing him eat something other than seeds!
My 'tiel didn't eat anything but seeds for about the first 10 yrs of his life, now he eats his pellets & fresh foods VERY GOOD! I've been able to cut his seed rations down to 3 servings a week! So, like everyone else has said, keep trying, it IS possible!! |
