| Seed & pellets??? |

my birds eat kind of a mixture of seeds and pellets....my cockatiel just eats about anything I give him...same with my Grey, but my Conure just kind of plays with the fruity pellets and just eats the seeds....
Another question I have is, I feed [[or try to]] my Conure and Grey this Zupreem fruity pellet-type mix....is that okay??? I mix in the extra seeds and things, and they get a variety of MY food, and Nutriberries....
I can't get my tiel to eat the Nutriberries, but he's on a seed and pellet mix too.....

I will let someone else answer about the mixture you are using. However, I noticed
quote:

In the wild, birds are taught what to eat by their parents. In captivity, your bird could easily have an unbalanced diet by picking through his food and eating only favorite items. It is up to you to teach him that the other foods you give him are edible.
My bird would toss her mixture aside for the seeds. I improved her diet by teaching her to take a single millet seed from my fingers. Once she learned that there would be something delicious there, I sorted through her mixture for whatever she was consistently rejecting and offered those tidbits to her with my fingers. She is now a very enthusiastic and adventuresome eater. |

If your birds eat Zupreem fruit blend, that is better than no pellets at all, but the added color & sugar in it can cause a bird to be some what hyper, just like feeding humans too much sugar. Zupreem natural (it's called "Maintenance") is better, in my opinion, but don't buy a large bag right off.
Like Meg says, birds most likely wont eat the pellets if they are offered seeds with it. You might want to try putting the pellets in a sperate bowl, located at the highest perch.
There are conflicting opinions as to which is best, a diet of seeds, or one of pellets. In my opinion, a mainly seed diet is far too much fat for a bird, tho I do believe seeds should be included, in a small way, as part of their diet. I feed my sennie & 'tiel about 1 teaspoon of a mixed seeds (MINUS the sunflower seeds) 3 times a week. They have pellets available at all times, 24/7, & they are fed lots of fresh veggies, a bit of fruit once in a while, along with lots of other things, like legumes & pasta & eggs. I think a variety of good, nutricious foods, without a lot of preservatives, seasonings, & color is great.
Be sure to read thru more about seeds vs pellets in the diet section too. It's always good to get a recommendation from a trusted avian vet too! |

My grey and senegal eat pellets only (with fresh and cooked foods of course). They don't get seed. They do get nuts occationally. My budgies however were the stubborn ones with pellets. But I followed someone's advice of offering seed in the morning and evening for about an hour then removing them and just leaving pellets. They now chow down on their pellets with no problem. I do still give them a little seed each day as a treat but their main diet is the pellets.
I use Harrison's for all my guys. They will sometimes eat Roudybush but prefer the Harrisons. The bigger two loved Zupreem but I stopped feeding that because of the sugar and coloring.

clarification - the budgies chow down on the pellets as long as there is no seed available. If given a choice they will always go for the seed.
Btw, Pickles will not even eat seed if offered. And Smokey will only pick out her favored peanuts and go back to her pellets. So I don't even offer them any as a treat anymore.
