Oh, I thought you liked cooking. I don't mind cooking when I have to, but I'd rather not. I wish I had a personal chef I don't like buying frozen foods or processed foods so I always have to do chopping . Except frozen pizza I buy sometimes . M'mm I love pizza. |

Well, I hadn't tried that. The pellet size I was getting (fine) seems small enough. I don't have anymore Harrison's left to try that with. But I may try another brand. There is a good pet store not far from here, and I think they carry Zupreem. If they do I will try that. And *if* she ever eats them, I'll try Harrison's again. It's just too expensive with shipping and all since she doesn't even eat it. Silly rotten bird. he he!

Well Poppet has his food dish refilled with pellets everyday and a plate of vedge / plate of fruit put in his cage (fruit one day and vedge the next alternately) He has no sunflower seeds in his basic diet but does have them along with Monkey nuts as special treats. |

With all the birds we have Harrison is out of the question. We try to stick with Zupreem in a 40# bag the Conure size. This is in thier cage 24 hours a day. Then there are the fresh furits and Vegs, and she precooks alot of things and puts them in the freesre, but ever morning Carrie works to feed them, depending on whats in season and what we have put up. Then at night they all share in our dinner, what ever that is. You should see Charlie (YNA) go after a chicken bone. You would think you just gave him a pice of candy.
For Treats what ever works for that bird... mostly nuts and some seeds.

My Conure gets the following:
In the morning he will have a bowl of handrearing porridge mixed with oats and millets, or egg fodd mixed with oats and millets.
During the day he has an extruded pellet.
In the evening he will have his seed mix consisting of fruit, nuts and seeds.
He will also have either a fresh fruit and veggie mix or a sweet hawian noodle mix which is heated up in the micorwave, it consists of fruit, veggies and noodles. |

Jrmno, I find Harrisons too expensive too. I know some will say that the expense is well with it for the health of our birds, but I've found Zupreem is a very good alternative, without the great expense, & that's what I use too. But, with my 3 birds, I use 3 different sized pellets
Stranger, that sounds like a great diet! |

I have recently changed my routine.
In the morning, i give my flock pellets and a pinch of seeds.
Baby the macaw get her macaw nuts mix in addition.
In the eve, it will be fresh food...vegs/fruits/sprouts/beans-grains mix
For pellets, I'm also expanding the variety

My budgies get their seed mix everyday coupled with lots of green vegs. I hardly ever give them fruits as they just don't eat them. No pellets for them either.
Apollo.. well he's one with a complicated routine..
in the morning when he wakes, he gets his soft food... mainly baby food(mainly veggies) mixed with his pellets. (I use vet-a-farm... suppose to be one of the better ones here in Australia minus the expenses like getting harrisons shipped over)... then he gets pellets throughout the day in his big cage... when hubby gets home from work, he gets some more soft food with pellets, then again when I get home from work... then again during my dinner time, then again before he goes to bed.. he's a spoilt bird for sure... in between soft food, he gets a mixture of canary seeds (not canary seed mix), rice, flaxseed, and once a week he'll get a little handful of sunflower seeds. These of course are treats while he's hanging out on the computer desk with me. He only gets pellets in his cage. He gets fresh greens too when i'm preparing dinner. so whatever I'm cooking, he gets a bit of it.
Now he's a complicated eater. he'll demand his softfood if we haven't given it to him. He'll have it at least three times a day. definitely once in the morning, once when hubby gets home, and once before he goes to bed. We still feed him with a spoon, of if I get lazy holding the spoon, he'll hold it himself, though that's when he creates more mess for me to clean up!! LOL |

Cheeta,
There is nothing like living on the edge, I would hate to see the mess Charlie would leave if we let him have a spoon.... Oh my.... . Why don't you shoot a Vid, that would be a laugh, (if we did not have to clean it up)

Shirin,
I saw the pics of your beautiful doves! I didn't know Doves can be tame house pets like parrots Do they eat anything besides seeds? Is it a different kind of seed mix than for parrots since their beaks are different?
