Just a ?. Where do you all store your feed that your not using? Right before I get down to about 2 pounds left I start getting the little moths in my seed. This is the container that I keep out to use everyday for Romeo and Newbe. I don't really have much to store in the freezer if that would be your answer. Should it go in there or the ice box? what do yall do |

I used to get moths in mine too. I changed brands because they were actually in the seed and the minute I opened the packaging they would start hatching into little worms eventually becomeing moths, I wouldn't know until I was about 3/4 through if it was contaminated or not because they are so small. I store my feed in airtight glass containers and I don't buy the pet shops seed they package themselves anymore. |

Hi danabird!
I always save the big plastic containers cat litter comes in & use those to store Manus pellets in. I just keep them in the utility room. I fill a smaller, pourable tupperware container to keep in the kitchen for convenience.
Poppy eats a mixture of seeds, pellets & such, & his I buy in smaller amts & keep in the fridge.
Yeah, I would suggest keeping it in the fridge if there's seeds in it. |

I've heard keeping the food in the freezer too and that eliminates the moth problem. I've only had Chaquita for about 2 months and changed her food and haven't done the freezer thing yet. So far I haven't needed to. I give her Pretty Bird, specially formulated for Amazons and cockatoos because they are more likely to get fat and it is a reduced fat feed. I would think that bulk foods are more likely to have moths. Hers is about a 2 lb. sealed pack and I haven't seen any little worms yet. |

I put my Harrison's in the fridge in their original bag as well. All other foods, like the seed mix and nut and fruit mixes I store in rubbermaid tupperware and just store at room temperature. |

Thanks guys I guess I'll just go to a small size container to have sitting out and leave more in the freezer. I'll go to the store next week to buy fresh . I didn't get to stock up at the bird show as they didn't have it this time. There was a lot of damage to the roads where the show was going to be held due to Dennis. Dana |
