very very picky tiel.
Hi,
I want some help with what to feed my cockatiel. When I bought him he had only had a seed diet so wasn't accustomed to eating fruit and vegies. He is also very timid and is very careful about trying new things. And the only seed he eats is budgie mix. He won't touch sunflowers or wheat etc. Not sure why, one of my friends bought a tiel from the same place and it eats all the seed in regular small parrot mix. The only thing I can get him to try is some apple when my lorrie is eating it. But since my lorrie is very possesive over his food I can't get them to share it. What does everyone feed there tiels? I am going to try pellets soon but I want him to eat some vegies etc too. He seems healthy and happy but I'm scared it won't last at this rate
By the way my lorrie is the complete opposit and will try anything I give him. He's a complete hog and loves new things.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I thought I was going to have the same problem toby my kak will eat everything and anything but when I first got astrix(my tiel) he would only eat the small seeds out of the mix but as time has gone on ( 2 months) he will now eat veggies as well not as much as toby but I see him eat them he will also take sunflower seeds from us as treats (all we use them for) he dosnt crack them very skillfully but he gets the idea. I guess just keep trying and let him see your lorrie feeding as much as possible if they can't share.####kellie

cockatiels are not big fruit eaters.I make bird bread and hide fruit in it and mine will eat that. Try brown rice(cooked) and peas that seems to be a big hit with mine. Good luck.
