| Agresion or just playing ? |
|
|
My sennie for the second time "attacked" tux my tiel.
What is strange to me is that he doesn't display any aggressive behaviour.
First time he grabbed hold of her wing and let go as soon as i came near.
Now he just tried to peck her, this time my arm and hand where between them and he jumped over my hand and tried to nip her.
He could easaly have hurt her twice but he doesn't really seem to be using any of his might
Tux normally just sits on her cage and and is content to just observe the the madness. If teach comes to near she'll hiss and puff, but teach just ignores her and will walk right past her.
But twice now he landed on the cage and walked up to tux and attacked no warning no sign of aggression
Teach also lets the other tiel (beasty) sit on his cage and even eat from teach his bowl on top of the cage play stand. He even lets beasty steal seeds from his beak (this is not them feeding each other, if teach takes a pumpkin seed beast will just pull it out of his beak or talon, teach just ignores this)
So now i am confused is he realy attacking her or is he trieing to get her involved in the 'fun'
Also any ideas on how I could make him stop this ? |

Hmmm I don't know about this. Tiels are quite pacifistic birds, so I'd be very careful. |

I am believe me.
I just dont get it, Teach and beasty get along.
Sometimes beasty will try to show teach who is boss and even nip a few times at Teach. Teach will either ignore it or push beasty away.
But tux who never comes to teach his cage but just likes to sit on her cage and observe he "bites" |

This is just a guess on my part and I would not trust them together alone because of what I am going to say....
Birds do play and pull on each others wings, feet and feathers. There is a major difference in their bearing when they are attacking with any serious intent. I believe that you would notice this.

John,
We decided to let tux an beasty out of the cage first, because after 15 mins or so she goes back inside anyway.
Once she goes back in teach can go out.
I am not worried about beasty because he is a very good flier and much faster then Teach
I dont think its aggression, and with what you said confirms this I think.
I know how tiels look when they are aggressive, and I haven't seen any such sign in Teach.
But then again he is not a tiel and my first Sennie.
The first time he had tux by the leading edge of the wing (where the bone is) for at least 5 seconds before he let go.
Tux was in total panic, but if it was aggression I think he could have done a lot of damage in that time but he didnt.
Thanks for the help |

Hi, would you please clarify:
Tux and beast are tiels? And Teach is the Senegal?
Is Tux flighted? Can she get away, if teach pesters her too much? Bad accidents happen when one cannot get away - like one bird in a cage the other not, etc.
Are they tame to you? If they are and you interfere,a s you described, you may be very well reinforcing teaches bad behaviour. Has this behaviour been getting worse? When did it start and how old are the birds?
We are starting breeding season and they all are acting up a little bit right now. I hear this from everyone...

Tux : 6 y/o tiel, got sick after laying underutilized eggs right while we where moving house, noting is physicaly wrong with here (multiple avian vet checks. but since she got sick she stopped flying almost completely)
Beasty : 2 y/o tiel
Teach : 3 month old Senegal
He did it twice, each time on top of Tux and Beasty their cage
All of them do step-up and are tame.
I now took to letting teach out first do some training and play for 20 mins before taking Tux and Beasty out.
That way 20 minutes he is alot calmer and is quite happy to just hang around us. |
