|
|
hi all
i have a 7months IRN which i bought very tame and lovely comes and eats from ur hand,,, which stayed all alone for about a month then i got her a male IRN, but the vet told me u cant but them together now so i put the cages very close but yet sepearated , the boy is also tame but flys as hes not clipped.
i let them to fly sometimes in the room when im washing the cages but the female is too doiminant she keeps on runing behind him to fight beak to beak and screaming together i see,,,, today i did the same thing but one got his beak bleeding ,,,, i seperated them, then i put them together in a larger cage(enough for 2 CAG) they are queit now each sitting on a differnt perch not enough or singing!!!!!!!!!
so can anyone tell me whatts next will they be friends or eniemies forever
im staying infront of the cage all the time to stop any problems but is it safe
i mean can any one really hurt the other badly like more then a bleeding beak,,, thanks all |

Hmmm the female is chasing the male right? I think it's good that he can fly away.. I think the female can't fly?
I wouldn't let them together in one cage.. Do you have a room they don't know? Usually it goes well there, preferably on a flat surface. (That is with clipped birds) |

Do you really hold them together? I wouldn't do that.. Chances are the female might feel 'encouraged' to attack are very likely!
Just retreat and let them find out for themselves. (With supervision ofcourse!)
You can distract them if they're getting mean. I used to distract Zazu with a tennisball. I would bounce it on the floor. |

hi all
i finally put sugar the female outside the cage on a perch still attached to the cage but from outside with her bowl of food and water. the poor man is inside the cage also with his food and water and the treats(fruits etc) i give in the same time to them so they feel okay,,, but still from outside the cage the female keeps on (sometimes) irritating the male and if i put her inside she runs behind him, hes also teriified i feel,,, they have seen each other now for 2 months and no chages i see???? i feel they will never like each other,,,
any suggestions dear feathered owners
thanks tired of seeing them fight for nothing

Is the female able to get on top of the male's cage? That would not be good because it would make her superior to him. |

okay she does and then goes back to the perch so what do u propose,,
any ideas better than this one because the cage is so big it can take a CAG nicely but i have only one space cant buy another one for the male also,, and the one i have is very small for him so i decided to keep him in the spacious cage and her outside the same cage as she doesnt fly but if hes outside he will fly around
i hope they like each other some day |

If the top of the cage is flat, maybe you can lay a board or cardboard on it so that they can't see each other while she is above him. But you will have to rig it so that she can't peer over the edge and see him. Others on this forum will probably have better ideas. Maybe they could both go back to their smaller cages and just take turns getting to play in the big cage.
It takes my bird several days-- sometimes a week-- to get used to a new toy. She will watch it for several days before she will approach it. It would probably take longer for her to be comfortable enough with a new bird to feel safe around it. |

In the Psittacula species which includes IRN's, the females are the dominant sex. I'd say first to clip the female, and keep the male flighted. Also, In my humble opinion, it is not necessary to have them interact so closely. I am used to having my birds all separate. I've usually had birds who have had no interest in each other. Also, I know Robin will attack another bird if he had the chance, so I have everybody in their own cages (can't reach anyone else's cage) and only handle them and give them attention separately from each other. Maybe down the road in time you will be able to interact them closer, but I wouldn't push it for now, and give each their space since they're clearly not friends (or yet).

As far as I know newspaper is safe. If I'm not careful laying down the paper in my budgie's cave, he'll try and chew at it throught the grill at the bottom of his cage Lately though he's had a calendar to chew on so he hasn't bothered the newspaper |

It's fine for birds. Birds like shreddable stuff. Most of them will shred the newspaper if they can reach it.
