departure problems  Reply with quote

I have a 3 years old cockatiel,Ciuffy. She was extremely friendly when we bought her but we had to live the country for 3 months and we took her to a relative during this time .She had a nice life here was free all around the 3 room apartment and they even brought her a tree to climb in it.But since we came back , she has been completely changed into a genuine wild bird .she is very aggressive and fearful. Although we tried we didn't manage to tame her back. Any suggestions??

Hi Alina, welcome to fluffies.
I'm so sad to hear that she has turned into a wild bird. But don't dispair.. Most birds can be trained (again)
Can I ask if her wings are clipped? Smile

Ummm, I don't want to sound like extremely stupid or inconsiderate or anything, but I have to ask.... Are you sure it's your bird??? I'm not saying that this is the reason, but it has been known that people do something stupid and than they go out and get another bird that looks the same to replace it.. Sad but it does happen unfortunately.. So thought I'd ask.. Are you 100% sure that it's the same bird?? It's just that I can't see how a bird that has been tamed (especially tiels) for three years can become so very wild in three months? That's just almost incomprehensable... but that's just me...

I'll think of sometihng that might help you with taming him.. Is he clipped though?

Thank you for answerig me.Yes I am very sure that it is my bird. After researching a little on this forum I found out about the dominance thing connected to not-clipped wings and I think this may be the problem .My Ciuffy used to have the entire kitchen for herself and when I would come in she flew directly to my face which was a little scarry, I think she was defending her territory. Now I have clipped her wings and I definitely see an improvement in her behaviour.

Hi Alina,
Great to hear that you got her wings clipped and that you see an improvement. Perhaps, after some training you can decide to have her wings grown back? (Or not, just as you like it.. Smile)
Please keep us updated about your Ciuffy! Smile
