Hi Claire,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not really familiar with Amazon.... but may be he's testing his new family?? You've really only had him for a really short time. I'd say that he is still adjusting to his new family. when he's nasty, leave him in his cage and may be just sit there and talk to him quietly and sing to him. That way he'll learn that you're not so scary afterall. I think the major thing here is that you guys will need to win his trust over first... since he's been with three homes already in such a short little life... It'll take time and a lot of patience, but he'll eventually come around and trust you guys...

Someone else may have other suggestions and advice for you. Good luck with Ozzie.

Cheers
Bih

Hey Claire

You're welcome. Just a word of warning though... if you are letting him eat out of your mouth, it is probably a bad idea as our months and saliva contains lots of bacterias including e-coli which could easily eart our birds... Jost a thought for ya... Smile

Hello tiptop!! Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure what kind of birds your husband is used to, but when it comes to the larger breeds, things change. You definately need to give him more time to get used to everything. When it comes to parrots, it can takes days, weeks even months, depending on their personality and ability to trust. In your birds case, he's been shuffled a lot in just his first year, so his trust ability make take longer than if you were his first owner Confused Time, patience and love will win your bird over. Please, don't give up on him Crying or Very sad I know you won't.

It's a good start that he'll take treats from your hand in just the first week! Does he take them through the bars or do you put your hand in the cage? If he takes it through the bars, then your next step is through the door, hand in cage. Next step, place your thumb and index finger above his head and if you get lucky, he'll drop his head for a scratch Wink Take it slow, he'll learn to trust your hand. Who knows what he's been through with human contact.

Please keep us posted and don't give up.
