HELP! Screaming Bird  Reply with quote

I found this site by accident and I'm hoping you all can help. I have a 3 year old Blue Crown that I love to death but he screams from morning til night unless I am right there with him. Unfortunately I have to work and it's not always possible to be right with him when I get home. I've made sure he has plenty of toys, food and his cage is in the most active part of the house. I'm at a loss as to what to do about his screaming. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Crystal

Hi Chrystal.

Welcome to the forum. How long has he been screaming for? Did it just started doing it constantly? Or has it been an on going behaviour with your bird. Do you live with other people that has to put up with the screaming as well? If not, you can try to just get some earplugs and ignore the screaming while you're at home, and only go to him when he's quiet. and of course praise, praise and praise him when he's being quiet.

My too used to call out for me til I put his cage in my bedroom and got him into a routine, now he sleeps when he sees me sleep (I got him into the habit by having him next to me and making sleepy blinking eyes at him) now he knows that he comes out in the morning for a big feed then goes down for a nap (I've got him near the window so he can look out if he wakes up and gets bored) then he comes out in the evening, he gets his treats when he is in the cage.

Thanks for replies. He has done this pretty much since the day I got him and yes, there are other people in the house that have to deal with it. The dog is also showing signs of disapproval. He's a sweet bird and this is the only issue I've ever had with him - it's just a very loud issue.

Hi cnhede!
Can I ask how long you've had him? Perhaps there's actually something physically wrong that requires a vets attention. That's something you might want to think about too.
As far as I know, a birds only scream when something's wrong. They'll scream when they're bored, but if he's got plenty of toys to keep him occupied, that shouldn't be the case. They also will scream for attention, but not continually all day long, I don't think, especially if you've worked since you've had him.

Hello...I have heard that when they scream a lot that means that they are overstimulated. WHen my bird starts going crazy, I put her in the quiet dark bedroom and immediately she shuts up. I go to check on her and she is fast asleep. Try that, good luck Razz
