So finally I bought a clicker for my senegal Kiwi and we have been practicing for a few weeks - he really seems to like it and he seems to get the basic tricks already - he turns around when I tell him and the step up and down works perfectly and we're right now practicing the waving thing. I wanted to ask if you have some interesting tricks (besides turn around and wave) or methods how you clicker train your parrots. For example Kiwi lets me turn him on his back but how do I start to teach him to do it on his own.
All kind of new information about clicker training is welcome I will search the forum archives as well.
I have some friends who really like this group - in case you haven't gone there, it is: Bird-Click group at Yahoo Groups
They are very supportive.
It was good to hear about your progress with Kiwi. Keep up the good work. Learning to 'Come' & 'Go' are so useful in controlling a bird safely. We haven't mastered the 'go' word but they do know 'Fly' & that seems to get them to go back to their main perch or to their cages. I haven't tried any tricks but then I don't have a Senegal & I think they do need the stimulation of 'work' to be fulfilled.
