Hi
My parrot, an African Grey, has been staying with my parents for the past year, as I've gotten married and there is not enough space in our flat for my parrot to stay with us. He has since then picked up very bad language and I don't know how I'll get him to stop saying the bad words, once we have a bigger place and he can come stay with us. We want to have children soon too, so the bad language has to go before that.

He he! MY boidie says NO naughty words !
My step daughters grey came to her already knowing a few choice words, & since she also has a 3 yr old daughter at home, she really has been working with the bird. Whenever he says a bad word, Kendra says something else in a very exaggerated voice, that sounds similar to what the bird was saying, hoping that he will soon say the clean word instead. For instance "truck", rather than something else!
Worth trying, huh? |

Whoops! I see this is a problem!
Can you turn these words into other words that sound similar?
Do you respond to the 'bad words'? Don't make a fuss of it, and distract him. When he says good words, praise him a lot!
Hope this helps? |

Ignore him when he swears and reward him when he says good words, Mine picked up "bugger off" which I used to say to my lorikeet when he'd bite my ear but doesn't repeat it anymore because I didn't react to it. I try not to swear in front of my bird he picks words up too easily. |
