I'm not sure what's going on with them, but I would definitely seperate them. I have heard of lovebirds living with eachother for years happily, and then suddenly one killing the other.

Oh no! Poor little girl! Do you think it may be trying to mate with her?
I would say that if he's hurting her, you need to keep them in seperate cages for now.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but I sure hope she is OK!

Ohhh nooo! I'm sorry to hear this!! Please separate them, I don't trust this? Perhaps Cheeta (who has budgies, I assume your parakeets are budgies) can answer your question.

Yeah they are budgies...I put them in seperate cages...He wouldn't even let her eat or play with the toys..He made her stay at the bottom..And then if she would try to go to the top he would chase her and tray to grab her

Yeah I know they're budgies, I just used the lovebird example to say that they can actually all of a sudden turn on eachother and kill eachother. I think you did the right thing in seperating them Smile

Dragonchic... when you say he won't let her eat and play and all that, that only happens in the cage right? but not when they are out? Do you know how old they are? In honestly, I haven't had any real problem with any of my budgies sharing a cage. they do have fairly large cage so they can usually get out of the way of each other.. but however I do have like three food dishes in there and two water dishes in there for them. I currently have five living in one cage at the moment, they seems happier when all are in the one cage... My birds do get fiesty with each other every so often, but like I said, they can get out of the way, and they have different food bowls to use if one's blocking a bowl off for everyone else.

I'm not sure what's going with your two, may be the boy is getting territorial with his cage?? try putting him in the other cage with the female and see how he treats and react to her and the new environment. seperation might be required if they can't live together peacefully.

It may simply be a case of the cage being way too small.

I find a lot of problems resolve by themselves given enough space to fly and hide in.
