my parakeet  Reply with quote

I just got a parakeet yesterday.
It likes to be handled but in its cage, it doesnt do much.
I havent heard it whistle, play with its toys, or even eat for that matter.

Is something wrong? Crying or Very sad

Eating and Drinking are important. The others will come along in time. Watch her close, to make sure she is eating and drinking.

If you've seen him eating, then i wouldn't worry about it Smile Birds don't drink that often, he's probably doing it when you're not looking.

The playing and singing will come once he gets used to and comfortable with his new environment. The fact that he likes to be handled is a lot on it's own. You're doing a great job, don't worry Smile

Yes I have to pretty lucky in my sidelong glances to see little Speckles 2 taking a drink Smile If she is eating and drinking fine, the singing will turn up fine too. When we got our dear little bird home, we didn't hear a peep out of him for about a week, and then he would only sing when he was in his cage. I think he first started singing outside his cage while he was sitting on my hubby's shoulder a few days after he started singing in his cage (I think about day 10). Nowadays he'll chirp just about anywhere! Laughing

That's millet, and a lot of birds go crazy for it Smile See mine: http://www.fluffies.org/en/flu.....ry_id=1049

If it seems like it's the only thing he's eating, then take it out of his cage and just offer it to him as a treat. If you take it out of the cage, then he'll eat what's in his food dish.

Shirin is right,

This should be used as a treat only, Try puting small pices of it in his food dish. hold a small pice to make him get on your hand. When ever he see you for a couple of days have a pice of it in your pocket, and make sure he gets a little bite each time he see you, and then guess what, he will want to see alot more.. Remember give him just a little bit each time, leave him always want more. Never let him get full on a treat. Let him get full on food in his dish..

He will, once you take the millet out he will go looking for his food Smile But if you want you can also buy those plastic food dishes that you can attach to the cage anywhere you like. They're like $2 or something.

Give him time, he sounds like he is fine. They don't drink much water. He will start to adjust in a couple of days, right now he is scared, everything is new and so big, he is so little....
