| New Senegal Parrot |
|
|
Hello! I just got a baby Senegal Parrot a few days ago, and he's already warmed up to me quite quickly! He was socialized with humans by the breeder so he already is a very sweet bird. He learned to step up and down the day after I got him. His name is Max!
I just had a quick question on something he does that I'm not sure is still part of him being a baby, he is only 4 months old, fully weaned and fledged, but sometimes when he sees me, or is sitting on my shoulder, he will open his mouth and make a hrrrrring sound. If i talk to him while he is doing this, his will almost nip at me, but seems to just bonk his beak against my lips or cheek.
I'm not sure if this is still because he is a baby and he is begging for food, or if he is agitated or something.
Any help would be appreciated! |

Does it sound like a growl? If so, he could be scared. |

Hi there! Welcome to you and baby Max.
Is it a growling noise? Sennies sometimes show their disapprovement by growling. |

It sounds most like a hiss that a cat would make to tell you the truth. He does it at strange times, like if I kneel down next to his cage when he's in it, he'll do the hiss with the mouth gaped open and look at me. Or he'll be on my finger and I'll talk to him and sometimes he'll look at me and do the same thing. Or on my shoulder and I'll look at him and he'll do the same and bonk me in the cheek with a little hiss.
Maybe he just doesn't like me speaking directly at him? |
