Picasso has started eating his soft food like he used to eat his formula when he was a baby, he's about 1 1/2 yrs old now and has been weaned for some time but out of the blue he's just started behaving like a baby again. He still does the squeek and jerk throwing food everywhere. His fav food now is chicken soup Is it normal for toos to regress, like when they are molting or if they are sick, do toos just take longer to grow up than other birds, he's fine in every other respect except for being a little grumpy. |

Sorry hun, I just don't know what to tell you as I've never had any similar experience at all. I wish I could offer some help, but I'm afraid I just don't know ... |

I've heard that it's common for cockatoos to regress, but I don't know if a year and a half is too old. How old was he when he was weaned? |

I'm not sure if he's regressed or if he's just decided that he liked the rediscovered behaviour.
Does he cry alot like he's begging for food?? Just wondierng if you can expend on 'behaving like a baby'? Apollo is about the same age as Picasso, but I tell ya what, he's still the biggest baby around!! although he's stopped crying for food a long time ago and hasn't done it since. which is great!!
Shirin, Cockatoos have been known to take up to two years to leave their parents after they've fledged. so they do take a long time sometimes.. |

He doesn't make begging noises for food just scoffs it like babies do, if I give it to him on a spoon he jerks at it squeeking, after he's all content and snuggly, he was weaned quite late, I think he is "comfort eating" he's putting on weight, he'll probably be fat by the time he gets his next check up!
I was wondering if anyone else had similar experiences, say when their young bird went through its first big moult. |

Sorry Shells, for my late reply. I have been quite busy migrating the website..
I don't know if it's normal.. But, when I gave Misty a spoon of formula (left from Iago) she started begging.. And very loudly! It took me quite some time for her to stop.. |

Hi Shells;
Sorry I did not reply. I just saw your post.
Is he still eating his normal food too?
Linus makes his begging noises and wing tremble when the Pizza delivery guy arrives.
I do not think he has regressed so much as he knows how to play me. It is so cute I always give-in and let him have a tiny bit of the crust
How do you react to Picasso when he acts like a baby?
Linus did regress when he was about 6 months old from almost all solid food to wanting baby formula 2X per day when I first brought him home. The vet said that was normal and not to worry as long as he was eating something.

He does it with human food like soup, mashed vegies etc. He doesn't eat hard food because of his beak but he gives it a go. He still eats grain (rolled oats, rice, pasta and musli because it's softer) his vegies and his pellet diet. I just figured he was comfort eating. I've used it as an opportunity to get some protien into his diet since the vet told me to give him red meat to help his PBFD. |
