thanks for the responses, karen and admin. i'm really looking forward to taking him. he's such a part of my life, too, i'm glad not to have to be a week away from him as well as the rest of my zoo. and i'm looking forward to introducing him to my family up north - it is the slow country life there, up with the sun and to bed with it, and i just know he is going to love the people and the life. i can't imagine a morning without him: when i wake up now, i look over and see him watching me, and then he steps out onto my hand oh-so-politely and gurgles to me... what a joy he is, and so darn intelligent! i have a wonderful cat, great dogs, awesome horses, and the best family (boyfriend and two kids) ever; sake is so different and yet fits us so well that i can't imagine feeling complete without him. does that make sense? anyway, i've taken him in the car to my office at the university before, and he did really well during and after, so i am thinking that the drive shouldn't faze him too much. i'll be sure to take your suggestion, karen, and stop at some rest stops for him to stretch and relax. and i'll talk to him the whole way. he likes music, too, so i'll put some pretty music on as well.
i'm looking forward to going! i'll post how it went when i return (no internet access where i am going).

Have a great time on your trip Dim. I know how you feel about leaving them behind and not having them there when you wake up. That is why we make that long drive once a year to Florida instead of flying. It's amazing how attached we get to our furry and feathered friends. We drove up to Michigan last summer, only a five hour drive, and the whole way there my MSC2(Sambird) talked and laughed even though she did get car sick. She didn't seem to mind. I think she liked the adventure. You are right, they are so amazingly intelligent. Have fun on your journey! Karen |

sake did amazingly well, was adored by my family and was quite the friendly gentleman in return. so i would say that traveling with him was definitely a success. coming back now he is even more sure and confident of himself and his place in the home. there was however a bad thing that happened, no relatiion to my bird: on my way from my family's house to see my horse (actually on the way back) i got into a very bad accident. wrecked car completely, wrapped it around a tree, killed my beloved husky (dog), left me with some severe internal injuries (multiple broken ribs on one side, bruised spleen, etc). i was in the hospital (in wisconsin) for a week, much of it in the ICU, just home a couple of days ago. i'm still mostly bedridden and learning to adjust to not having morphine dripped in continously through IV. oral pain meds just aren't the same... pres (my boyfriend, live-in, and my family have been wonderful. sake is continually asking for head rubs - he spends most of his days on my blanket playing with toys or just cuddling with me - and my cat won't leave my side. funny how they know.
anyway, i;'ve been reading posts but it is more difficult to sit up and write. so glad for this forum, and i love the new pics!

Dim, you gave me goose bumps when I read this! I hope you are healing fast. It's amazing how you can be so upbeat and have gone through such a terrible thing. I'm very sorry to hear about your husky. Huskies are my sons favorite dogs and oh how beautiful they are. I have a chihuahua, she can't eat my birds.HaHa. I'm glad the travel went great with Sake and that your family and friends are there for you. It's nice to hear you are still lurking around. I wondered where you were. Again, I am so sorry to hear about your accident and your loss. Please take care of yourself and get better. Karen |

Dim, chills were running done my spine as I read your post..
I am so sorry that you lost your husky..
Please take your time to heal before starting to participate in this forum. Really, there are more important things in life!
Let's put you in the first place..
It's wonderful to hear how your fids (furred & feathered) all seem to contribute in your healing process.. They're so special.
Please, if I said anything upsetting, bear with me. My English really lets me down with these kind of things. Sorry for that. |

Oh Dim, so sorry to hear about the accident! Thank goodness you are ok now. Sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved husky. I do pray that you heal quickly and be up and about with your family and animals.
Those darn morphine are just so addictive aren't they?!? I remember having to stop my mum using too much of her self administrative morphine for her pain after a spine operation she had. She just couldn't get enough of it!! LOL.
And oh did anyone tell you you're addicted to this site as well?!? Two days was all it took!! We love ya here mate. Just make sure you look after yourself! Like Sue said, put yourself first!
Here's a get well rose from Apollo! Hope you like it.
Take care

Hi Dim, I feel a little flattered, can I?
But please don't rush things, and if it's hard to sit behind the pc, please wait a while or so.
Please understand me: I'd really like you here, but your health is far more important.
Hugs,
Sue |

Hi Dim
Apollo says thank you for the compliment, and he'd like to give you a 'wings wrap' (equivalent to a hug for human) so you'll feel better soon.
It's good to hear that you're feeling better. Please take it easy.
Thinking of you.
