It may have just been an old feather and is ready to be replaced.. did you look closely at the feather? Is there blood at the tip? (the shaft end not the feathery end) If theres no blood it was probably just an old feather. |

Oh you are one over-protective mommy just like the rest of us! All feathers fall out naturally and new one's grow in, just like with our hair. If you see one single tail feather, I doubt very much that she's plucking. She is just getting ready to go through a moult. Even if you see a bunch of feathers at the bottom of the cage or floor, this does not mean she is plucking, she is just moulting, and you will soon be able to feel a whole bunch of pin feathers around her neck. The only tme I would suspect that something is wrong is if she is pulling the feathers out and screaming as if it hurts when she pulls them and if she appears to have bald spots on her, or if you notice her chewing her feathers (while they're still sttached to her). |

yeh I have a pillow factory going on at the moment at my household... all my little budgies decided it's time to get some new feathers, so off they go... covering the room that they are in for sure.
i'd say that you little one will be just fine. sometimes my budgies drop most of their tail feathers at once too... so they look kinda funny without their long tail feathers. Keep an eye on it to make sure everything is ok, and oh some birds get cranky around moulting season, so don't take it personally. |
